Erasmus project : EuroConomy and Job Prospects. Virtual meeting in Greece.

Chortiatis, February 1st -3rd, 2022

Due to Corona pandemic, the scheduled mobility to Greece was changed into a virtual meeting. We did our best to provide all the necessary knowledge through videos and presentations so as all participating students get a thorough idea of how the economy of a country is influenced by tourism and the cultural heritage of the country.

All participating countries, Germany, Norway, Portugal and Greece, presented their schools and countries during the first day, as well as their assignment on how they believe tourism affects the economy on their country.

We went on to present how important tourism is for the economy in Greece and also how the practices of the past can inspire modern business. We presented the first cooperative in the world, which was created in Ampelakia, and how it operated in the past as well as the impact it still has in the area, as it remains a touristic attraction till nowadays. Locations such as Vergina, Meteora, Thessaloniki, Chortiatis were presented as places full of history, closely related to our cultural heritage and strongly affecting the tourism throughout the years.

Our students were divided in 5 multi-national groups, each of which would search and work on: Agricultural tourism, Religious tourism, Archeological tourism, Cosmopolitan tourism and the Cooperatives.

All groups were provided with a few examples of economic activity related to their topic as well as useful links, websites, etc and were asked to work in their groups and decide what to search, choose, study, select and present .

Students came to realize how tourism has a direct effect on economy. Its development in a country contributes significantly to the increase of its income and, at the same time, creates employment opportunities. Tourism is recognized as the largest and most important industry in the world. We got insight on the many shapes and forms of tourism from all four countries, such as Archeological, Religious, Agricultural and Cosmopolitan tourism, all of which share some sort of cultural heritage and provide each country with economic and financial support. We also learned about Cooperatives, which through their trade inside and outside the country support the national economy. All of the above are of equal importance and exist in every corner of the world, uplifting economies and bringing people closer. Tourism boosts the economic growth of a country as it creates job opportunities, increases cash flow and gives foreigners the opportunity to learn about the culture of a country.
